Basement Solution

Currently our basement is filled with boxes of items we can't fit upstairs.  It is a partially finished space but still not a place I would feel comfortable spending any great length of time in.  Long story short it needs to be cleaned out and redone.  Perhaps gutted so we can properly insulate.

One of the other problems we have is the cold moist air traveling up from the basement into our living space.  It makes for a chillier winter and is only helped by our lack of insulation.  So we need something to close it off from the rest of the house.  There are a lot of ugly solutions, really ugly solutions.  Plastic sheeting like that on the doors at a butcher shop, accordion doors, or a pocket sliding door (the best of the three by far).

Then, going through some This Old House magazines from my Mom I saw this.  A picture of a sliding door.  Perfect!  There is this too.  I might be onto a stylish solution.  Woo!  Hoo!

Have any of you seen this firsthand?  I've only seen them on barns.  Do you have any more inspiration pics for this sort of thing?

  1. You have a wine cellar in the basement to cover up?! You should ask you Father if it is doable.

    As always...love your blog.

    Mom :)

  2. Will you close in the staircase too? Will the 'lope wall move up??

Thank you. I love comments!
